Positivity, how engaging in positive thinking can lengthen your life
How would you like a greater resistance to illness? What about better psychological and physical well-being? Sounds good, right? Well, the secret is staying positive. Easier said than done, nowadays. The world seems to collapsing in on itself. We are faced with increasing costs at the grocery store and tensions between each other. Sometimes, it’s hard to connect with our inner self.
Interestingly, mindset and mindful thinking have been trending for a while, but what are they and how do you accomplish positive thinking? Taking a few moments each moment to reconnect with your breath and focus on the things you have to be thankful for can go a long way towards personal well-being. Unfortunately, it is also something that can be hard to find the time to do. Each morning, I like to hit my yoga mat and pray to God. I ask him each day for his grace and forgiveness. Next, I stand in mountain pose and feel my breath and ask for his strength and guidance.
I meditate and set my intentions to gentleness, kindness, and service to all.
Light some candles and smell the sandalwood
We can use our senses to jump start our positivity. Smells are one of my favorite ways to quickly trigger memories. It skips a lot of the mental processes and brings familiar thoughts to the foreground with ease. Subsequently, try lighting your favorite incense while you practice finding your center and setting your intentions for the day. Theoretically, the smell will begin to trigger positive emotions when you don’t have time to sit down and meditate or reflect.
Life often doesn’t leave us time for self care and reflection. We can use smell as a shortcut to trigger positive emotions, releasing serotonin, even during anxiety inducing activities like work.
Ever made a gratitude list, what even is that
Some people make lists. Some people keep journals. What works for you is the most important thing. Essentially, some people find it beneficial to keep or write a list of the things they are grateful for each day. The process of making these lists or journals is the important bit. It helps center us and keep us from becoming to negative. Negativity lowers our immune system and decreases disease resistance. Being negative is bad for your health!
Healthy Aging with Positive Thinking
Selectivity, the ability to prioritize thoughts and actions related to current goals, is both spared and impaired with aging. This means we tend to focus on things that benefit us the most with the least amount of effort. Taking small steps to increase your quality of life through positive thinking coincides with healthy aging. Healthy aging [is] viewed as an absence of serious diseases, having functional independence, a positive psycho-emotional outlook, and making a social contribution.
