Your agents job is to inform you about the details of your plan. Sure, they are there to help you find the best plan match for you during election periods. However, that is where many agents stop helping. Many agents view the beginning of the year until AEP as vacation time, where they hang out with other professionals and compare sales numbers. They make leader boards and hand each other trophies. Leaving their clients wondering how to access all those benefits they were told they had.

Answering the phone can be a risky proposition these days. Chances are, someone has attempted to sell you Medicare over the phone. If you did decide to try their plan and you got a somewhat honest salesperson, you may have actually gotten yourself a decent plan. The trouble is, that is where their support ends. Their only concern is new clients year over year. They will only ever reach out to you to sell you another plan. If your agent rarely recommends you to stay on your plan, be wary.
If you have been sold over the phone, you may not even be aware of who your agent is. Many over the phone sales are done by unlicensed, non-credentialed agents being paid by the hour overseas. They are not always out to do harm, but they are almost never out to provide quality service to you after the sale has been made.
My agent never answers my calls or emails
Most agents are salespeople and not customer support people. They know how to sell you on a plan, but not how to provide basic support. Many of them do not actually understand how healthcare works. They insist on making you wait days or weeks for a reply. They are also great at making hollow promises. Many of them are more interested in talking about themselves during meetings and never listening to or remembering your concerns.
